Council officials hail e-payment
Dedza District Council (DC) officials have hailed the introduction of e-payment for Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP) and Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme (CS-EDWD).
Dedza DC principal welfare officer for SCTP Mtonde Lungu said there have been various challenges in the past as the initiative used huge sums of money such as fuel, allowances and security issues.

“The migration from manual payment to E-payment will cut expenses in the first place. Beneficiaries have also been spending a lot of time waiting to get their wages and this was unfair to the already less-privileged people,” he said.
Beneficiaries receive the money through TNM Mpamba.
On her part, Dedza CS-EPWD project facilitator Jocaster Khoriyo said they will embrace the transition.
“Previously, the council used to disburse the funds manually. The new system will address the issue of security and convenience,” she said.
In Dedza, there are 19 592 households under the SCTP, a programme being implemented by the National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC) with funding from the Social Protection, Multi-Donor Trust Fund and the World Bank.
On the other hand, CS-EPWP has 21 411 participants in all the 24 catchments in the district. It is a component of the Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods and is being implemented under the NLGFC with funding from the World Bank
